We start by explaining the problem.

Plastic is one of the biggest threats to our planet, and especially to the sustainability of the oceans. It is estimated that there are 250,000 tons of plastic spread across the oceans, these coming from our beaches, streets, highways and carried by rainwater or wind, reaching rivers and from these to the sea.
Microplastics from the degradation of plastics are easily ingested by marine organisms by direct ingestion or by bioaccumulation, eventually reaching us through the same process. This presence of plastic in the ocean has become a global concern, and helping to reduce plastic consumption is a responsibility of all of us that starts with simple and individual gestures.
According to the Portuguese Environment Agency, approximately one million plastic bags are used every minute. At European level, Portugal is one of the countries that uses plastic bags the most, and annually, each Portuguese uses on average more than 460.
Small actions can really make a difference, rejecting the unnecessary use of plastic and opting for biodegradable and compostable solutions, reduces the use of plastic by approximately 47%.

The Oceania

Sensitized by this problem and encouraged by the preservation of the environment, we created Oceania Eco-Innovations as a means to help solve this problem. In 2019, we decided to investigate alternative materials to traditional polyethylene and polypropylene bags, in which we were able to develop an innovative material that we believe is the solution to reduce the use of plastic bags.

WHAT WE DO?

We have developed several types of bags, made from an innovative formula based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH/PVA), this material is used to coat dishwasher/clothing machine inserts. Products made from this material have water-soluble, biodegradable and compostable characteristics.

This material can be manufactured in two formats, in film or Non Woven fabric. Yes, you read that right! Do not believe? Watch our videos below.

Our bags can be customized according to the minimum production quantity. By using our products, you are supporting responsible production and consumption, which not only reduces the use of plastic, but also its circulation.

FILM

In this way, we manufacture many types of products in Film, which are specially designed to replace the disposable plastic options on the market, such as handle bags, hollow handle bags, dog hygienic bags, shipping/shipping bags, with tape, hotel bags and laundry bags.

Non Woven

The Hydrobags (water soluble bags) are made of Non Woven. This collection stands out for being bold, elegant and irreverent, with exceptionally distinctive features to encourage consumers to use it as often as possible in their daily lives.

HOW IT WORKS?

The material used in our products is hydrophilic, which means it is soluble in water, making it the perfect way to dispose of it without harming the environment or animals. The fact that they are attracted to water means that they are sensitive to moisture, whether during storage or use. It is suitable to protect items from dirt, dust, scratches and light damage, inside environments with controlled temperature and relative humidity below 50%.
Both materials (Film and TNT) are soluble in hot water, biodegradable and compostable.
We recommend reusing our bags as often as possible before discarding. When no longer in use, place the bag in hot water and it will disappear in seconds. That way, you won’t be creating waste in landfills. The resulting mixture of dissolution is a mineralized biomass and non-toxic paint.

0% microplastics

During the biodegradation process, the small particles do not absorb or accumulate toxins, as in traditional hydrophobic microplastics. Due to their hydrophilic nature, the particles biodegrade rather than persist in the environment.

What happens when you put it in water?

In hot water it dissolves in seconds, in colder temperatures it dissolves much more slowly. When placed in hot water, the carbon in the bags decomposes through an oxidation process to form smaller oxidized polymer chains, and the end result is a mineralized biomass, these smaller chains decompose further in the wastewater stream. to form carbon dioxide and water.
Compliant with the sanitary system.
